Datamax offers a variety of desktop PCs from economical Celerons to high end Xeon workstations. The brands we offer are HP/Compaq, IBM, Dell and our custom clones. The laptop brands we offer are HP/Compaq, Toshiba, IBM and Sager. We also provide economical upgrades for existing PCs.

Our goal for clients is to have a reliable an efficient PC on their desk and avoid the aggravations of flakey software and hardware. We are very frank in our opinions about what works and what doesn’t. Over the years there are just some products that have proven their unreliability so often that we categorically shun them, like Windows Me, Western Digital Hard Drives and Gateway computers. They are all turkeys as far as we are concerned. We only offer products that have proven track records and where customer service is more than voice mail.

Currently the obsolescence cycle is three years. This means that after three years that desktop PC is ready for the dustbin due to its older technology and declining performance. Unfortunately, this decline is very gradual thus imperceptible to the user. They suddenly recognize how slow everything has been when they get a new PC.

Not keeping up to date also incurs what we call “back end costs”, the downtime and aggravation due to failing components. It is very similar to trying to keep a car on the road with over a 100K in mileage.
As soon as you fix the radiator, the transmission goes, etc. It is a never ending cycle.

We would like for the cycle to be longer, but until the pace of PC technological change slows down, we have no alternative. It is Moore’s Law that the memory and storage capacity of the computer double every eighteen months.
